Women's Health

Women's pelvic health physiotherapy (also known as pelvic floor physiotherapy) is a specialised branch of physiotherapy that focuses on the assessment and treatment of conditions related to the pelvic region in women. It addresses the pelvic floor muscles, which support the bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs.

This therapy is for women across all life stages — from adolescence to post-menopause. It's particularly beneficial during pregnancy and postpartum, after gynecological surgery, or for those with chronic pelvic conditions.

Women’s pelvic health physiotherapy can help with:

  • Urinary incontinence (leaking urine, stress incontinence, urge incontinence, overactive bladder)

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Pelvic pain

  • Postpartum recovery (healing from childbirth, abdominal separation/diastasis recti)

A pelvic health physiotherapist may use:

  • Internal and external examination techniques to assess the pelvic floor function

  • Exercises to strengthen or relax the pelvic floor muscles

  • Manual therapy to release tight muscles or improve mobility

  • Biofeedback or electrical stimulation to aid muscle control

  • Education about posture, toileting habits, or safe exercise
